Priority areas of science, technology and innovation activities in Belarus for 2021-2025 have been approved by the Edict of the President of Belarus of 7 May 2020 No 156.
The list of the priority areas includes the following.
1. Digital information, communication and interdisciplinary technologies and productions which are based on them:
- development of information society, e-government and digital economy;
- mathematics and modeling of complex functional systems (technological, biological and social systems);
- information and management systems;
- smart city technologies;
- big data technologies;
- artificial intelligence and robotics;
- digital spatial models, augmented reality technologies;
- aerospace and geoinformation technologies;
- communication tools and data transmission methods;
- high-performance computing tools;
- physics of fundamental interactions of the micro- and macroworld, emerging technologies (quantum, cognitive, neuro-digital, and anthropomorphic).
2. Biological, medical, pharmaceutical and chemical technologies and production:
- biotechnology (genomic and post-genomic, cellular, microbial, medical, industrial);
- systems and synthetic biology;
- artificial tissues and organs;
- diagnostics, medical prevention and treatment of infectious diseases, including those of viral etiology, and non-communicable diseases, examination of the quality of medical care;
- personalized medicine;
- medical rehabilitation of patients;
- maternal and child health;
- management of human health and environment, healthy and safe food, active longevity;
- medical equipment;
- pharmaceutical substances, diagnostic medications and systems, medicines and immunomodulators;
- antibiotic resistance;
- chemical technologies and production, petrochemistry;
- fine chemical synthesis;
- processing of raw materials, forest chemistry;
- textile materials with desired properties.
3. Energy, construction, ecology and environmental management:
- nuclear power, nuclear and radiation safety;
- new types of energy;
- energy efficiency, energy saving;
- intelligent electric power systems, “smart“ electricity consumption;
- high-capacity electric accumulators, fuel cells;
- environmental and energy technologies in architecture and construction;
- new construction materials and structures;
- rational use of energy resources;
- rational usage, reproduction and management of plant, animal, forest and water resources;
- biological and landscape diversity;
- specially protected natural territories;
- environment and climatology;
- minerals and subsurface studies;
- techniques and technologies of wastes collection, neutralization and usage.
4. Engineering, engineering technologies, instrument making and innovative materials:
- mechanical engineering and machine science;
- industrial automated complexes;
- electric and unmanned vehicles;
- laser, plasma, optical technologies and equipment;
- micro -, opto-and microwave electronics, photonics, microsensorics;
- radio-electronic systems and technologies, instrumentation;
- metallurgical technologies;
- additive technologies;
- composite and multifunctional materials;
- nanomaterials and nanotechnologies, nanodiagnostics.
5. Agro-industrial and food technologies:
- food safety and quality of agricultural products;
- soil fertility;
- selection and reproduction of agricultural plants and animals;
- veterinary medicine;
- agricultural machinery and equipment;
- precision farming;
- production, storage and processing of agricultural products.
6. Ensuring human, social and state security:
- social, humanity, economic and information security (human, society and the state, history, culture, education and youth policy, physical culture, sport and tourism, management of technical, technological and social processes);
- scientific and technical provision of the national safety and the state's defense capability;
- tools for technical and cryptographic information protection, cryptology and cybersecurity;
- law-making and effective law enforcement;
- law enforcement activities, forensic expertise;
- emergency protection.
The above priorities are the basis for shaping public programs in research, technology and innovation and provide the budget support for their implementation in 2021-2025.
